Its Over June 14, 2010

4 years is quite a long time, a lot can happen in that time. In the past 4 years I have been studying for my degree in Multimedia, Production and Technology and last week it all ended.
4 years thats over 1200 days, its a bizzare feeling and I dont think its quite sunk in yet. I dont have to go back to univeristy, that makes it sounds like I dont want to but nothing could be futher from the truth, I think I’ll miss every second of my life at university and life in Plymouth for that mater.
From going in every day to work with coursemates to stumbling home at 4am after drinking a tad too much I dont think I’ve had any bad experiences, I’ve loved and lost and am probably a better man for it.
I’m not going to start dwelling on it all and how much I’ve grown up and matured and all that but it’s been the most fun I’ve ever had.
Now just time to find a job!!

Well, I’ve been meaning to do this for a while.
Here are the releases of my 307/4D project.
Bits and Bobs April 7, 2010

I met Mike earlier and talked about the 4d project, a few suggestions came up such as making the camera rotate around the data just to get a different perspective of the timeline of data from the arch-os system.
The second seems much more important which was to have a randomization on the time of history we a looking into, initally I couldn’t understand the purpose of it, yeah it made it less boring because something was happening on the screen but it did seem to be more important than that. It added some clarity in looking at the difference between the building 10 seconds ago and now and 50 seconds ago and 2 hours ago, the jumping about seemed to show that the building does go through changes but in the short term they are subtle but when looking at a wider timescale seem to be much more interesting.
Also goes well to dance music, mainly because the timings somehow match up at least in my head.

Well I’ve been ill and in reality probably still am so things are moving slowly. Idat 307, the Arch-OS visualisation project is almost finished and should only take one more day to add the randomization and tidy the fonts up, so thats tomorrows job.
I will deffinately update this tomorrow but for now I have a killer headache so Im going to bed.
Nite!
Scrubbing April 2, 2010

I finally got the data scrubbing system for 4d to work as I want it. The best analagy I can come up this is a comparsion to Deja Vu, the film not the feeling.
In this Denzel Washington can look exactly 4 days, 6 hours, 3 minutes, 45 seconds, 14.5 nanoseconds from the current time, always from the current time, my project does a similar thing in that the user can decide how many seconds to look into the past and be able to view say 10 seconds in the past from now, so when new data is added you see data that was already in the past but has only now got a history of over 10 seconds. I think, see its confusing!
I have a cold April 1, 2010

I manage to make it all the way through winter without a cold and as soon as it’s supposed to be spring bam there it is. Works not going well but I have an excuse, well a cold but it’s allowed.
Anyhow, I’m off to sleep if I can and will hopefully post some stuff tomorrow, some works really moving forward.
peace.
Interactive March 30, 2010

I’ve decided to make the camera in my idat 307 project interactive, this was fairly easy to achieve once I discovered the OCD library (Obsessive Camera Direction), this is a really simple way of utilizing cameras in Processing which otherwise I would have found an absolute pain as it uses an x,y,z co-ordinate system for both the camera and target system which I was finding rather confusing, where as OCD uses pan and arc and terminology which is human readable and understandable.
Update March 23, 2010

Well im here again, its been a relaxing week with a few days off because of major hangovers, I mean come on it was St Patricks day, anyhow back to work. The Idat 309 project is now done and dusted and I can forget all about working with 3d ever again. Im not even gonna get started on it. So yeah back to the 4d project.
Idat 307
So I stil have no idea where to take this, currently I’m simply taking in the data and converting it into a bar chart – yes very boring even I find it boring – so I need to build something onto this data, something that gives it meaning rather then just a random set of numbers or a random set of bars.
I’ve narrowed the data down into subsections such as electricity, temperature, water usage, weather, atmosphere so I may look into using certain colours, something recognisable for each, to represent these, furthermore the data is also split between the areas inside the building such as Atrium A, B, C and lecture A, B, C and Block A, B, C these are the three sections of the buidling so it may be worth looking at incorporating that as well.
Final Year Project
Theres a seperate blog for that here but I cant say its going any better.
